Golden Island Restaurant in Salt Spring Island

Took 40 minuets to get my water, Then once my food arived it was cold. Not satisfied at all

Food was appalling, we haven't been back.

Sam knows what the particular foods are that everyone eats while they are at the "Golden Island" restaurant. The food is delicious,, the prices are reasonable and the atmosphere is friendly.

I really love to try and promote local food. But this is the absolute worst Chinese Food I have ever had. And at a premo cost too!!!... sadly very very disappointing!!

Ahhhmazing szechuan green beans and fried ginger beef. Friendly service and good portions... eating left-overs as I write this 😄 will be back to try more of the new Szechuan dishes - yum!!

Great food, great service

Had the most delicious dinner. The BBQ glazed pork and the special fried rice was over the top. Would definitely go back... the service was good but seemed understaffed. Talking to a few of the locals, they say it’s hard for business’s on the island to hire enough staff to work.. Overall, a very good experience.

My wife and I were in there 4 nights ago for dinner, and the Chinese food was excellent. We are from Victoria and I have to say we were both very impress with the Chinese food. We like to think we are both food critics, but in all seriousness we were both happy and full... definitely a MUST try if you have an opportunity. The wait/staff was friendly and courteous with everyone, we will be back😊

Very quick friendly service and the best Chinese food I've had for a very long time. The most tender beef and freshest veggies and overall highest quality best prepared food.

The food is freshly prepared. The sauces vary with each dish. Our family goes there for special occaisions.

Decent food. Waited an hour for a takeaway as it was forgotten during a busy period.Staff are pleasant and welcoming, mistakes happen, not overly worried about the wait. Order didn't have the item we substituted, only the original item. We drove back to the restaurant to get the other item - for whatever reason they wanted the incorrect meal back, which they received.Again staff are welcoming and were apologetic, however I feel we spent both time and money fixing their mistake.Survives due to lack of competition on the island.

Run!!! I visited this place with my friends- we walked in, it was empty. The chef was sitting on a table whistling and everyone seemed shocked to have customers in the store. We tried to play it safe, and ordered the chicken chow mein. UNACCEPTABLE! There was no flavor, no oil, and the chicken looked like rubber, maybe out of a can?We asked them not to waste any food and to not cook the rest of the order. This place should be checked by health Canada. So very disappointed...nothing like the pictures.

My second time back here. I thought I would give it another try. Sadly I was disappointed again. The food is nowhere near as good as the other restaurants on the island. I think there needs to be some attentive management, the staff seem nice but are all over the place, service could be a lot better. It was a Friday granted, but not busy really. It was really slow. Save your money.

Loved the won ton soup and the sweet and sour pork is really good chicken chow mein not so good overall a pleasant experience

I know how hard it is for some of the islanders to be without transport. But charging $5.00 for delivery less than a kilo to an elderly customer is greedy and has lost 2 customers for starters.

Over priced and tasteless. Still searching for a sign of chicken in my chicken chow mien. Had the owner come to our house to pick up unwanted delivery and he pretended he was going to talk to owner about it. Have some accountability for your business and it's really a bad sign when the owner doesn't want to admit to being the owner.....

What a great little place! Went with 3 others, ordered 5 dishes. Quick table service, quick food out from kitchen. One of our party didn't want red peppers in the egg foo yung, so we ordered another without, and they replaced it with carrots, instead of just removing the peppers. Great touch! Couldn't recommend it more! Will definitely be back.

Service was friendly, but infrequent. Food was SUPER fast once we ordered. Food quality/quantity/price was pretty average for a Chinese food joint.

Just had the buffet last night and the food was terrific. Lots to choose from, will be back. Great service and great value for your money.....ps, you guys gotta try the mango ice-cream, so yummy:)

Food has gone downhill since new takeover, not nearly as friendly environment compared to previous owners. Very sad to see.

Best Chinese food. Sam and his staff have been serving the island for as long as I can remember and Sam still is always smiling when you walk in that door.

We had a fantastic experience here. Food and service was great, we ate here with our one and three year olds and I’ve never seen them eat so much of their dinner. Chung served us and he made us feel so welcome. We will 100% be back.

I just ordered from this restaurant, literally the worst Chinese food I've ever had! I wish I could post pictures! I normally don't even write reviews but I'm hoping I can spare anyone else. The chicken chow mein was plain steamed noodles, with no sauce & sliced deli meat on top, crispy ginger beef was rubbery & looked like a grocery store pre frozen product, the fried rice was grey (not an appetizing colour for sure!). I would not recommend eating here at all!!

Went here for a family dinner one evening and was pleased with the overall experience. I'm not a huge fan of Chinese food, but I largely enjoyed the dishes here. The food was up fairly promptly, as well, and the staff here certainly went out of their way to be as helpful and accommodating as possible. Overall, worth checking out!

Wor wonton soup broth and vegetables had a good flavour profile, the wontons were a bit overcooked but otherwise tasted ok. The broccoli with the beef and broccoli was the only edible part of our entrees. Avoid meats and stick with veggie dishes only.

Great food and atmosphere

We ordered take out with some changes... And boy oh boy did they deliver! It was the best Chinese dinner we have had in years!..I cannot wait to eat the left overs! Thank you all. J.L.
